This is only the second book by Meg Ripley that I've read, 1st in her Dragon's of Sin City, & I wasn't disappointed.For a quick read it was filled with just enough action & drama to keep you turning the pages, to see what happens next.
Looking forward to Bk2.
There are many Instra-love stories in this book, most good, some not so much, these you'll have to decide for yourself.
I do recommend you give this book a try.

I have to admit that I am beyond frustrated this morning, as this is the fourth time I have had to type this review. signed off twice and then my kindle locked up and had to be restarted ... AAAHHHH!!!! Finally I decided to type everything in an email and then copy and paste into so apparently it worked since you can read ... Anyways on with the book and thanks for letting me vent for a moment ... )
I enjoyed this story, although I did have a lot of unanswered questions when I finished about some basic things for the characters, Ava / Hope more so than Cade, so I struggled between 3 and 4 stars, so let's call it 3.5 and I errored on the side of author. This is a somewhat steamy paranormal dragon shifter romance. It was a pretty quick read and had minimal adult language and a little detail in the intimate scenes, but they were not erotic scenes. There isn't any cheating and this is a standalone romance, but I hope there is another book to go more in-depth so it answers my questions, especially since it is a book 1.
The book is about Cade Stryker, a billionaire that is rumored to have a sketchy past, and Ava Winter / Hope Davenport an assistant to a magician / illusionist. He has multiple businesses and a hotel in Las Vegas with a casino and entertainment center and he hired the magician for a couple of shows to gauge talent level, audience reaction, etc. to evaluate potential for future bookings. What Cade didn't expect was to step into the back of the show and be mesmerized by the assistant. He has never had a physical or mental response like this to anyone previously but especially a human, which is why he must meet her to see if he can figure out why he feels this and maybe get it to stop. When Cade goes backstage and is finally introduced to her, his reaction is even stronger. As both him and the dragon (his other half) want her and feel possessive which has never happened either.
To make it even more confusing for Cade when he is introduced to Ava he can feel the slight tremor that went through her and sense that she is attracted to him. Even though he had no plans to do so, he finds himself asking her to have a drink with him, but she declines graciously and leaves. Now why would she do that? It doesn't make any sense; makes him wish he could have seen her eyes without the contacts she is wearing, as they truly are the windows to the soul for him to see more about her. And what is up with his other half? Never had him interested in any of his other conquests, but the dragon wants her just as much as Cade which is dangerous for her.
Ava had seen Cade standing at the back of the venue and she recognized him. Then when she was formally introduced to Cade and they touched hands, she was attracted and wanted to know everything about him. It scared her to have such a strong reaction. Then he asked her for a drink and all she could say was no and get home. She was so exhausted and expected to go home and go to sleep as soon as her head hit the pillow, but all she could do was think about Cade. Then after she finally falls asleep, someone comes banging on her door. So she wakes Lexi, the teenage runaway that Ava / Hope has been helping, and has her hide in the bedroom while she answers. There hasn't been any sign in over a year that anyone was looking for her. Then when she gets there, it is someone who works for Cade to ask her to go to breakfast with him ... freaking breakfast! So she is not very happy and obviously declines. The next day at the show he is again standing in the back and when Adam asks for a volunteer from the audience, Cade comes forward to help with the next illusion. When he touches her neck, Ava / Hope can't help the feelings that almost overcomes her, strong enough to make her miss her signal and Adam has to call out again ... this has never happened before and it doesn't help that she can tell he is feeling it too. After the show ends, Adam tries to encourage her to go for it with Cade, even if it is just to scratch an itch. Ava / Hope doesn't want to admit to her feelings out loud, but based upon her response to Adam it gives Cade an opportunity to challenge her public opinion and get her to agree with going for a coffee with him. I am going to stop here as hopefully I have provided a background but not any spoilers or twists.
Now as to my questions ... please do not read beyond this if you do not want to have my questions inadvertently provide you with any twists.
There seemed to be some base information missing, like what is Hope's current age? It provides the approximate age of Stryker, but not his expected life expectancy, or how old does he look? If they mate and bonded would one impact the other? Why is Hope hiding? If her father is why she ran away, why is she still worried about someone looking for her?

I really really wanted to like this story. I love dragon shifter stories. This one....not so much. Right from the start you've got some big secret both main characters are holding onto that they are trying to hide from each other but are constantly being hinted at. (I hate it when writers do this in a lame attempt to keep their readers involved in the storyline. If you have to rely on this form of writing to encourage your readers to continue reading to the end; then you're not a very good writer) From there it was non stop drama, depressing misunderstandings that lead to hurt feelings of betrayal and insult. Unfortunately, it get even worse, if that's possible, when you throw in the authors added attempts at even more intrigue and danger. Makes this story line a VERY HEAVY and EXHAUSTING read. I'm not even halfway through it and so far we have 2 female characters hiding from some unknown threat possibly looking for them, a lonely dragon shifter trying to resist her charms while hiding his attraction to her from other rival dragons intent on rocking his boat. I have not had a single laugh or a good feeling from this storyline at all. Usually there's something in there that makes you go "Aw, that is so sweet!" Not this story. Not once. If never ending INTENSE drama is your thing; this is the story for you. Me, not so much.
This is the first book in a series called Dragons of Sin City. It is a fast-paced and standalone story that will keep you engaged from start to finish. There's action, adventure, drama, danger, mystery, secrets, twists/turns, suspense, humor, evil, enemies, romance, passion/lust and love.
This is the story about a billionaire dragon shifter and an assistant to a magicinan who is using another name. Add into the mix a runaway girl and a bad dragon shifter and read what happens.
I voluntarily reviewed this advanced reader copy and this review is my own opinion.
This story unfolds a little slowly, in the meantime we get teased with Hope and Cade's burgeoning romance. The action and romance were fun but the ending was a total surprise.
This book is only about 182 pages, now saying that, there where quite a few other short novellas. None of the other novellas had anything to do with the main story Stryker's Desire. That is what I did not like. I will not be continuing with this series.
Meg Ripley does for Dragons what The Awakening by Christine Feehan does for Leopard Shifters and Nalini Singh did with the Psy / Changlings in Slave to Sensation! This is ones series anyone who loves Dragons will not want to miss! Just remember, what happens in Vegas...
